D.C.M. London Gazette 30 May 1924:

‘In connection with military operations in Waziristan from January 1922 to April 1923.’

Henry E. Harley first witnessed active service in the Great War, when he joined the 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, out in France in October 1914 (note entitlement to 1914 Star). Subsequently advanced to Sergeant, he was attached to the 2nd Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment during Allenby’s Palestine operations of 1918, and was awarded the M.S.M. ‘In recognition of valuable services rendered with British Forces in Egypt and Palestine’ (London Gazette 12 December 1919 refers). Harley rejoined his old regiment after the War and was subsequently present in the Iraq operations of 1919-20 and in the Waziristan operations of 1921-24, the latter resulting in the award of his D.C.M.
