British War and Victory Medals (8361 Pte., Durh. L.I.), in card box of issue; together with Memorial Plaque (William Sterling), this last pierced and fitted with an attachment for hanging, extremely fine (3) £100-140

William Sterling was born in Middlesborough and whilst living in Sunderland, enlisted at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Serving as Private 8361/200848 in the 1/9th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 23 April 1917, aged 32 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
