John Cammies was born in Wolverhampton and enlisted at Atherton, Lancashire. Serving initially as Private 14-16620 in the Lancashire and Manchester Regiments and then as Private 41151 in the 9th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he died of wounds, France/Flanders, on 23 August 1918, aged 26 years. He was buried in the Aire Communal Cemetery. He was the husband of Annie Cammies of 35 Powy’s Street, Hindsford, Atherton, Lancashire.
