232097 E. J. Savill, Royal Navy, was born in Bermondsey, London on 8 February 1887. He was killed in action on 1 January 1915 when the battleship H.M.S. Formidable was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-24. He was the son of Amelia Savill of 33 Fitzroy Avenue, Cliftonville, Margate, Kent. His name is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent. Sold with a folder of copied research on the Formidable and her loss.
