Pair: Private Kallow, British North Borneo Company Forces

British North Borneo Company Medal 1898-1900, 1 clasp, Tambunan, bronze issue (262 Private Kallow); Coronation 1902, bronze, nearly extremely fine and rare (2) £800-1000

Seven silver medals and 116 bronze medals were awarded, all with engraved naming. In 1905/06 those who wished could exchange their bronze medal for silver. Records indicate that 36 bronze medals were exchanged for silver issues with impressed naming. 262 Private Kallow (Kalau) is shown on the records as having been one of those who made the exchange. Kallow was also one of a contingent of two officers and 22 men who were sent to England in 1902 to take part in the Coronation celebrations. To commemorate their participation a special British North Borneo Company Coronation Medal was produced; 25 of these medals were manufactured by Spink, London and 24 issued. P.C. 262 Kalau is listed with four others in Governor Birch’s message book for 1902 to the Court of Directors in London, dated 4 May 1902, as having received one of these rare medals.
