Russia, Order of St. Stanislaus, 2nd Class neck badge by Julius Keibel, St. Petersburg, 45 x 45mm., gold and enamel, double-headed eagle and manufacturer’s initials on reverse, ‘56’ gold marks for St. Petersburg 1865-96 on eyelet, in Baldwin, London case, enamel damage to wreath, good very fine and very unusual £1000-1200

Sold with four letters/notes relating to the order, one reading, ‘This is to certify that the Medal as above described was purchased as a War Trophy from Pte. R. A. Jones, Welsh Regt. The Medal was in the possession of a German Unter Officer when he was made prisoner of war, near St. Eloi, April 1916. This man’s regiment gave evidence of connection with the Russian Front as most German regiments have experienced at various periods’, signed, ‘W. Williamson, 12.2.18’. Another, on ‘Baldwin, London’ headed paper, dated 12 February 1918, reads, ‘This is to certify that the Order of St. Stanislaus shown to me by Sergt. Williamson is quite genuine, Signed A.H.B.’
