Grant of Arms, an Original Illuminated Grant of Arms, on vellum, to John George Gibson, from the Royal College of Arms, dated 1903, with appropriate signatures, complete with seals and contained in red leather box with gilt E.VII.R. cyphers to lid, case damaged, contents in good condition £90-120

Also with a parchment slip admitting ‘John George Gibson, Citizen and Spectaclemaker of London’ to the Freedom of the City, dated 28 July 1904.

The Reverend John George Gibson was born in North Shields on 14 February 1859, the only son of Captain Ralph Coxon-Gibson, R.N. Educated at Albion Street Academy, North Shields, privately, University College, Durham and at Heidelberg and the U.S.A. Gaining a First Class Degree in Theology in 1886, he became a Deacon in 1887 and Priest in 1888. Appointed Vicar of Irchester, Wellingborough in 1893-94 and Hartford near Huntingdon in 1894-95, he was appointed Rector of Ebchester in 1895. In later life he gained a LL.D. (Washington College), 1904 and a D.D. in 1924. A fellow of many societies, F.S.A. (Scot.), F.E.I.S., F.R.G.S., F.R.S.L., etc. he was the author of a number of books, mainly on the subjects of freemasonry and antiquities. He died on 28 June 1923.
