Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (Oswald Noel Walmesley) nearly very fine £40-50
Oswald Noel Walmesley was born on 24 December 1894 and entered the Royal Naval Air Service on 23 November 1914 being appinted a Flight Sub-Lieutenant and promoted Flight Lieutenant on 1 January 1916. He was killed on 4 May 1916 whilst flying a seaplane. The aircraft struck the mast and wireless apparatus of a Torpedo Boat Destroyer and the wrecked plane ditched into the sea. Flight Lieutenant Walmesley’s body was not recovered and he was presumed drowned. The son of Oswald and Emily Walmesley of Bristol Gardens, Roehampton, London; his name is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
