Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Somaliland 1902-04 (Jemdr. Nur Sher Khan, 37th Lcrs. Baluch H.) very fine £250-300

I.O.M. Gazette of India 29 July 1921 [Mespotamian Expeditionary Force]. ‘Risaldar-Major, 37th Lancers’. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the 22nd July 1920. When in charge of a post he was surrounded by the enemy and subjected to heavy fire. With great presence of mind he kept his men in hand and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. It was due to his courage and detirmination that the detachment were able to withdraw successfully’.

Nur Sher Khan entered the Indian Army on 1 September 1891. Appointed Jemadar in the 37th Lancers (Baluch Horse) in 1901 and served with them in the Somalilanf campaign of 1902-04. He was promoted Woordie Major in 1909, Ressaidar in January 1914, Risaldar in October 1914 and Risaldar Major in April 1920. He retired with the British rank of Honorary Lieutenant on 1 July 1920. For his services in the Great War Nur Sher Khan was awarded the O.B.I. 2nd Class, with the title of ‘Bahadur’ on 2 January 1921 and the I.O.M. 2nd Class on 29 July 1921. The possible award of a M.B.E. has not been confirmed. Sold with copied research.
