Afghanistan 1878-80, 4 clasps, Peiwar Kotal, Charasia, Kabul, Kandahar (1963 Pte. J. Brown, 72nd Highlrs.) officially engraved in a slightly later style, toned, extremely fine £150-200

A curious medal, apparently a later replacement issue but without suspension claw rivet which should have been in standard use at this period. The medal roll confirms two clasps only, Kabul and Kandahar, and has notes in the remarks column which state, ‘Commandant Netley. 15.5.82’ and ‘Not to be replaced 28.8.94’, the latter with what appear to be references to correspondence files.
