Private E. Mealow was killed in action at Abu Klea on 17 January 1885. Two officers and 37 other ranks served with the Heavy Camel Regiment at Abu Klea, and it was through the Scots Greys that the Arabs broke into the square. The regiment consequently suffered heavily with 13 killed and 4 wounded out of the 39 present in the action.
