A Crimea D.C.M. group of three awarded to Sergeant-Major T. Pegg, 17th Foot

Distinguished Conduct Medal, V.R. (Color Serjt. T. Pegg, 17th Foot); Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (Color Serjt., 17th Foot), regimentally engraved naming; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (Cr. Sergt., 17th Foot), contemporary engraved naming, the second with slack and partially flattened suspension claw and the last pierced at 12 o’clock but fitted with swivel suspension bar, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise generally good fine (3) £2000-2500

D.C.M. Recommendation dated 12 March 1855.

Thomas Pegg was born in Staffordshire and enlisted in the 17th Regiment in January 1843, aged 19 years. Advanced to Corporal in October 1846, to Sergeant in October of the following year and to Colour-Sergeant in October 1852, he served in the Crimea from December 1854 until August 1855. His service record further notes his presence at the assault on the Great Redan on 18 June 1855 and also that he ‘distinguished himself by general zeal and gallantry at the siege of Sebastopol.’ Pegg, who was also awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal, was discharged in the rank of Sergeant-Major in January 1864.
