George Herbert Squires died of dysentery on 28 July 1942, aged 22 years, while being held as a P.O.W. by the Japanese at Pudu jail on the Malayan Peninsula. A member of the 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, he was the son of Charles and Rose Squires of Warsop, Nottinghamshire, and his remains were re-interred after the War in the Kuala Lumpur (Cheras Road) Civil Cemetery.
