Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Defence of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek, Belfast (5105 Pte. W. Allen, 1 Leic. Regt.) edge bruising, better than very fine £160-180

William Allen was born in Leicester and enlisted in the Leicestershire Regiment direct from the 3rd (Militia) Battalion in October 1897, aged 18 years. In his subsequent career of 12 years with the Colours his only active service was in South Africa from September 1899 to November 1902, including the defence of Ladysmith and the action at Laing’s Nek. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in October 1905 and was discharged in October 1909.
