Henry Martin was born in Leicester and enlisted in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment in January 1901. Embarked for South Africa in March of the following year, he served in Cape Colony prior to his return to the U.K. that October. He was discharged “time expired” in January 1907.
