The 1st Class badge of the Order of British India awarded to Subadar Syed Imam Bahadoor, Bombay Sappers & Miners

Order of British India 1837, 1st Class, gold and enamels, the reverse attractively engraved within a circlet ‘Subadar Syed Imam Bahadoor Bombay Sappers & Miners’, extremely fine £500-600

O.B.I. 2nd Class, with the title of “Bahadoor” GGO 12 October 1886.

No trace has been found of an appointment to the 1st Class but
GGO 792 of 1894 admits Subadar-Major Shaikh Kadir, Bombay Sappers & Miners, to the 2nd Class of the Order, with effect from the 30th March 1894, ‘vice Subadar-Major Syed Imam, Bahadur, late Bombay Sappers & Miners, deceased.’ This would appear to indicate that Syed Imam had died on 30 March 1894, and that he was still a holder of the 2nd Class Order.
