Auction Catalogue
First World War, Maria Theresia, Queen of Bavaria, silver medal by Schwergerle, 1917, head of queen right., reverse plain cross radiant, two wounded soldiers beneath, 1915 1917 divided by shield in exergue, matt finish, 40mm. Extremely fine for wear but surface rather unpleasingly streaked (£15-20)
The symbol of the Red Cross on the reverse indicates the medal honours of the work of this international organisation; Maria Theresia, one must assume, was the royal patron of the Bavarian section of the society; a medal perhaps issued for fund raising purposes.
