The obverse design is the left part of the obverse triptych from the plaque issued in 1893 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Maison Christofle (cf. Gaz. Num. 1897, p.147, 54). The type used is certainly an unusual one when compared with the carefree spirit of motoring as typified by other medallic issues of the time
