France, 50th Anniversary of the Société Industrielle de Mulhouse, 1876, a bronze medal by A.A. Caqué, arms in wreath below mural crown, reverse bee within wreath, 50mm; Frédéric Mistral, 1936, a bronze medal by Anie Mouroux, bust left in hat, reverse cicada on a shield, sun rays above, LOU SOULEU MI FAI CANTA, 50mm (CGMP p.284). [2]. Very fine, but first with reverse rim knock at 7 o’clock (£25-35)

Frédéric Mistral (1830-1914), poet and leading figure in the revival of Provencal literature, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in1904; the legend on his medal refers to the chirruping of cicadas at sun-rise
