James I (1603-1625), Rose Ryal, mm. trefoil, King enthroned holding sceptre and orb, plain back to throne, portcullis below, rev. square-topped shield over cross fleury, mark of value above, all within border of lis, lions and roses, 12.56g/7h (SCBI Schneider 78, same dies; N 2108; S 2633). Obverse slightly double-struck, nearly extremely fine, the variety with plain back to throne very rare (£4,500-5,000)
