British West Africa, George V, Pattern Shilling, 1936kn, in nickel-brass, crowned and draped bust left, rev. palm tree divides date, specimen above, edge finely grained, 23mm, 5.69g/12h (Vice 324; KM. Pn7; cf. R.J. Ford Sale, 111). Dark appearance, some scuffing in fields, otherwise good very fine, very rare (£150-200)

One of a series of patterns struck in 1936 and 1937 for the benefit of the West African Currency Board, reflecting suggested modifications to the coinage alloy which were adopted in 1938 (Vice, pp.177-8)
