Estimate: £40–£60

Death of Henry Hallam, 1859, a bronze medal by L.C. Wyon, bust right, rev. legend in 8 lines, 63mm (BHM 2654). Extremely fine; in original maroon fitted case [this much distressed] (£40-60)

Henry Hallam (1777-1859), historian. A contemporary note, dated November 1863 and sold with the medal, states that it was “proposed to the committee [for erecting the statue for Hallam’s memorial in St. Paul’s], and was authorised to have a medal of Hallam made by Mr. L. Wyon & given to each subscriber – quite unexpected…”
