Princess Mary and Prince William of Orange, 1654, a cast silver repoussé medal by P. van Abeele, bust of Mary left, rev. bust of the infant Prince three-quarters right in plumed hat, garlanded border filled with oranges, 61mm (MI I, 417/55; E 192; Fredericks 2/2b; v.L. II, 375). Very fine, a delightful double portrait medal (£500-600)

Illustrated on the Plates. Prince William (1650-1702), later William III, was born eight days after his father’s unexpected death from smallpox
