James Herbert (1623-76), sixth son of Philip, 4th Earl of Pembroke, 1st Earl of Montgomery (1584-1649), a favourite of James I who was created Baron Herbert of Shurland in 1605 and who subsequently became Lord Chamberlain under Charles I. Herbert married Jane Spiller (1629-65), daughter of Sir Robert Spiller of Laleham, Middlesex, and the manor of Shurland appears to have been settled on him on his marriage; the token bears their conjoined arms
