Sir Charles Sedley, 4th Bt (1639-1701), Restoration poet, dramatist, wit and courtier; son of Sir John Sedley of Aylesford; educated at Wadham College, Oxford; MP for New Romney under Charles II and James II. His only daughter, Catherine (1657-1717), was the mistress of James II who created her Countess of Dorchester in 1686
