James V (1513-1542), Crown, mm. radiant star on obv., crown on rev., open crown with frosted caul above square-topped shield with rounded base between saltires, double trefoil stops, rev. quatrefoil in centre of cross, lis at end of limbs, thistle-heads in angles, trefoil stops, 3.35g/7h (SCBI 35, –; B –; S 5370). Slightly crimped and small hairline striking crack at 2 o’clock, otherwise good very fine, the variety very rare (£1,500-1,800)
