James Lyon Dirkin was born in Lancaster in 1891 and attested there for the Royal Fusiliers on 7 September 1914. He served with the 14th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 25 October 1915, and was promoted Acting Corporal on 30 August 1917. He subsequently transferred to the Army Service Corps, and was discharged Class ‘Z’ Reserve on 15 May 1919.

Albert A. Gooch attested for the Royal Fusiliers and served with them during the Great War in the Balkan theatre of War from 16 March 1915. He subsequently transferred to the Middlesex Regiment.
