Walter James Dewey attested for the Royal Fusiliers at Horsham, Sussex, on 30 November 1915 and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 15 September 1916. Awarded the Military Medal, he subsequently transferred to the 48th Labour Company, Labour Corps, on 12 October 1918, and was discharged Class ‘Z’ Reserve on 30 March 1919.
