‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Cyprus for the period 1 January to 30 June 1959.’


Brian Gilson ‘joined the Royal Military Police in 1956 and on completion of his training took part in the Suez invasion, and then joined 227 Provost Company in Nicosia, Cyprus, where he served until 1959. During his time in Cyprus he was Mentioned in Despatches for his action in a gun battle with E.O.K.A. terrorists. He left the Army in 1959, and died in Hull on 20 February 2006.’ (the recipient’s obituary in the Royal Military Police Journal refers).
