D.C.M. London Gazette 6 September 1915:
‘For conspicuous gallantry near St. Julien, on 15th July 1915, when he assisted an Officer to carry in a wounded man through our own barbed wire under fire. At great personal risk he went for wire cutters and returned with them to cut some wire.’


John Clough served during the Great War with the 1/8th (Leeds Rifles) Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment in the French theatre of war from 16 April 1915. He advanced to Acting Sergeant and transferred to the Army Ordnance Corps.
