D.C.M. London Gazette 4 March 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was one of a party of four strecher-bearers during an attack, and when the three others were wounded he worked alone for twenty-six hours, bringing in wounded from shell holes. He also remained at duty after his battalion had been relieved, attending to the wounded. He undoubtedly save many lives.’
