William Simpson was born at Udny, Aberdeenshire, and attested for the Scottish Horse at Peterhead. He served with them during the Great War in Gallipoli from 1 September 1915, and was killed in action on 17 September 1915. He is buried in Green Hill Cemetery, Suvla, Turkey.
