Oxfordshire Light Horse, a very fine and scarce trooper’s special pattern full dress helmet, the skull of pressed black felt with front peak of black leather, complete with all white metal fittings comprising a QVC over complex monogram (‘1’ ‘O’ double ‘L’ and ‘H’) with the county militia motto at base ‘Fortis Est Veritas’, pierced raised comb complete with red horse trailing plume, the front of the comb with fluted holder and short red horse hair brush, front peak with edging and upper chain form decoration, lions’ masks side ornaments and plated chin chain; back peak with correct black leather binding, (Carman p119 Light Horse & Mounted Rifle Volunteers), internal leather sweat band present but with some tears and fractures, glued down in places, otherwise a very fine example of this short lived unit £500-700
