D.S.O. London Gazette 26 September 1916. Captain (Temporary Major) G. S. Briscoe, Worcestershire Regiment. ‘For conspicuous gallantry in action. During the attack he made untiring efforts under heavy shell fire to get consolidating parties forwardto the newly captured position. He led them personally until severely wounded.’

George Seton Briscoe was born in 1882 and educated at Mostyn House School, Parkgate, Cheshire and Brighton College. he entered the east Surrey Militia in 1900 and served in the Boer War during 1901-2 for which he was awarded the Queen’s medal with four clasps. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Worcestershire Regiment in 1903, he was promoted Lieutenant in 1906 and Captain in September 1914, attaining the rank of Major in January 1918. With his regiment he was present at Neuve Chapelle, Festubert, Loos, Vimy Ridge and operations on the Somme during July and August 1916.
