Geoffrey Kemp Bourne was born on 5 October 1902 and entered the Royal Artillery as a 2nd Lieutenant on 31 January 1923. Promoted Lieutenant in 1925 and Captain in 1936, he received the brevet of Major in January 1939. Serving in the Second World War, he attained the rank of Colonel on 15 March 1945 and was Acting Brigadier during 1942 and Temporary Brigadier during 1942 and 1944. He was a General Staff Officer, 1938-44.
