Duncan Kennedy was born at Greenock on 28 January 1888. He served in Discovery II as a netman during six seasons in the Antarctic, including winter voyages, during 1929-34. The award of the Polar Medal in Bronze was announced in the London Gazette of 7 October 1941. It is the only bronze medal awarded with these dates.
