Four: Lieutenant H. J. White, Expeditionary Force Canteens, late Honourable Artillery Company

1914-15 Star (Lieut., Ex. Fce. Can.); British War and Victory Medals (Lieut.); Territorial Force Efficiency Medal, E.VII.R. (233 Pte., H.A.C. Inf.), on H.A.C. ribbon, good very fine (4) £180-220

H. J. White was awarded the T.F.E.M. in July 1909. As a Second Lieutenant in the Expeditionary Forces Canteen, he entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 23 November 1915. He relinquished his appointment as Temporary Honorary Lieutenant on 6 February 1918. He had previously been Officer Commanding, Expeditionary Forces, Havre Base. Sold with copied correspondence concerning the relinquishing of his commission. In one letter he states, ‘... I planned, arranged and carried out ... feeding passing troops at No.2 Rest Camp, also the large officers’ mess and Rest House there ... I acted as C.O. to between 300 & 400 W.O.s, N.C.O.’s & men ...just prior to my leaving Havre I had close upon 7,000 men passing through to be fed in one day and the work was done without a hitch.’ Sold with copied research.
