Five: Petty Officer D. M. Fielder, Royal Navy

1914-15 Star (236701 L.S., R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (236701 P.O., R.N.); Naval Good Shooting Medal, G.V.R. (236701 A.B., H.M.S. Implacable, 1912, 12 Pr. Q.F.); Russia, St. George Medal for Bravery, 4th Class, rev. impressed, ‘No.1272768’, unnamed, last two with contact marks, very fine and better (5) £400-500

David Martin Fielder was born in Eltham, Kent on 13 January 1890. A general labourer by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy in 1906. Promoted to an Able Seaman in 1908, he served in that capacity aboard the pre-dreadnaught battleship Implacable during 1910-13, winning the Naval Good Shooting Medal at this time. During the Great War he was present at the battle of Jutland, serving aboard the destroyer H.M.S. Liberty in the 9th/10th Flotilla. For his services in the battle he was awarded the Russian St. George Medal for Bravery, 4th Class (re. Admiralty Order 1774, dated 30 May 1918 - name given as Daniel M. Fielder). Promoted to Petty Officer on 1 July 1916, he wasdischarged, time expired on 10 January 1920. Sold with copied service papers and Admiralty Order.
