Joseph Scotcher was born in the Parish of Stibbing, near Chelmsford, Essex, and attested for the 16th Regiment at Portsmouth on 4 May 1812. He served in the East Indies from February 1820 to May 1833, the remainder at home, and was a Sergeant from November 1815 until his discharge ‘being unfit for further service’ on 23 September 1836, aged 47 years. At that time he intended to reside and receive his pension at Halstead, Essex. Sold with copy discharge papers.
