Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 1st issue (JX. 127656 W. J. Gilbert, L.S., H.M.S. Glenroy) edge nicks, very fine £60-80

H.M.S. Glenroy, an Admiralty-requisitioned merchantman, was originally fitted-out as a troopship, but later converted to the role of a landing ship infantry (L.C.I.), and was present off Gold beach at the Normandy landings in June 1944. Mined on the 17th of the same month, she underwent repairs before joining in operations off the Burmese coast in the following year.
