Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 6 clasps, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen (3235 Pte. J. Moores, Scottish Rifles) some edge bruising, slight contact marks, about very fine £120-160

James Moores was born in Walden, Manchester. A collier by occupation, he enlisted into the Scottish Rifles in 1890, aged 18 years, 6 months. With the regiment he served in India between November 1891 and May 1897, in South Africa between October 1899 and April 1902 and again in India between April 1902 and November 1909. In the Boer War he served with the 2nd Battalion Mounted Infantry and was awarded the Queen’s medal with six clasps and King’s medal with two. Moores was discharged in May 1911 on the termination of his 2nd period of engagement. He re-engaged with the Scottish Rifles on 30 August 1914 and subsequently served with the H.L.I. Reserve Garrison and later, the Labour Corps. He was discharged on 10 February 1919 as ‘no longer fit for war service’ - due to arterio sclerosis and was in receipt of a Silver War Badge.Sold with 15 copied sheets of service papers. Scarce combination of clasps to regiment.
