Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen (3100 Pte. G. Torvill, K.O. Scot. Bord.) nearly extremely fine £90-110

Geiorge Torville was born in Haxby, Yorkshire. Serving with the 3rd West Yorkshire Regiment, he attested for service with the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in 1889, aged 18 years, 7 months. With them he served in India, March 1890-January 1897 and was awarded the India General Service medal with clasp for the Relief of Chitral. He was present in South Africa between January 1900 and December 1901 and served with the 7th Mounted Infantry. Discharged in February 1902, he later worked as railway shunter and died in 1941. Sold with copied service papers and death certificate.
