Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, no clasp (C. J. Caudrey, Lce. Cpl., PO 5544, R.M.L.I., H.M.S. Scout, 1896) contemporary engraved naming, good very fine £120-150

Charles Joseph Caudrey was born in South Norwood, Croydon in March 1877 and entered the Royal Marines as a boy bugler in March 1891. Advanced to Private in April 1894, he joined H.M.S. Scout in September of the following year, and served in her off the Sudanese coast, gaining entitlement to the Khedive's Sudan Medal without clasp. Having been paid off from the same ship in the rank of Corporal in December 1898, Caudrey was advanced to Sergeant in August 1901 and awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal in March 1910. He went on to witness further active service in the Great War with the 3rd Royal Marine Battery, and attained the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 in August 1915.
