Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Mooltan, Goojerat (W. Batchelo[r], 1st Bn. 60th R. Rifles) rim holed at 6 o’clock, fitted with cast replacement suspension and clasps, the second loose on ribbon £150-170

William Batchelor joined the 40th Foot on 3 October 1843 and volunteered to the 60th Foot on 30 June 1844. He transferred to the 31st Lancashire Volunteers in December 1861 and was discharged at Dublin on 6 February 1865, in the rank of Sergeant. He was then in possession of the Punjab medal and 2 clasps, and the Indian Mutiny medal with clasp for Delhi. He was severely wounded in the right thigh by a matchlock ball on 13 February 1850, when engaged against the Affridi Tribes at Kohat, and should subsequently have received the I.G.S. with clasp North West Frontier. Sold with copy service papers.
