Three: Warrant Telegraphist P. R. Norwood, Royal Naval Reserve

1914-15 Star
(Wt. FF., R.N.R.); British War and Victory Medals (Wt. Tel., R.N.R.), very fine and better (3) £40-60

Percy Richard Norwood was appointed a Warrant Telegraphist in September 1914, one of just a handful of men to hold that rank at the War’s outset. He subsequently served aboard the (somewhat inappropriately named) Teutonic, a sister ship of the White Star Line’s Majestic, both of which were converted for use as armed merchant cruisers on the Northern Patrol. As a result of the subsequent removal of ship appointments in wartime editions of the Navy List, it has only been possible to confirm that Norwood was still aboard the Teutonic up until 1916.
