Aberdeenshire Local Militia 2nd Regiment, a very fine and rare officer’s oval silver shoulder belt plate 1809-1816, engraved designs being the crown over ‘GR’ with ‘2nd’ & ‘Regt’ to the left and right, around the top edge ‘Aberdeenshire’ and ‘L.Militia’ around the lower, the reverse with one hook and two studs (one broken and missing) and the assay cycle for Edinburgh 1808 maker’s mark ‘G MH’ (the latter two letters conjoined and being the mark of George McHattie), excellent condition £600-800

The above regiment HQ Peterhead was created 21 January 1809 following the adoption of the Local Militia Act 1808, under the command of Lt.Col.Commandant Alexander Harvey.
