Huntley Volunteers (Aberdeenshire) a very fine and rare officer’s silver oval shoulder belt plate, heavily die-struck with raised design of a crowned oval strap inscribed ‘Huntley Volunteers’ and enclosing a thistle spray, reverse with full assay cycle for Birmingham 1798 and maker’s mark ‘J&B’ in a rectangular cartouche, both stud fasteners missing and the single brass hook a replacement, otherwise very good condition £600-800

The corps of one company strength was raised 29 August 1798 o.c. Capt James Gordon, stood down in 1801 but re-raised 15 October 1803 o.c. Capt George Davidson, absorbed into the 1st Bn Aberdeenshire Local Militia in 1808/09.
