1st Regiment of Foot or the Royal Scots, a most rare officer’s or very senior NCO’s shoulder belt plate c1812-1816, described in Parkyn p70 paragraph three, the Royal cypher within the collar of the Order of the Thistle with the Star pendant, above the collar the crown and below the star a Sphinx inscribed Egypt, below this a tri-part scroll inscribed ‘The/Scots/Royal’, on either side of the star pendant Union sprays, the rectangular back plate having rounded corners. Stated to be die-struck in one piece for the other ranks, this example features a brass based back plate subsequently coppered and gilded the designs are four copper gilt mounts and of good quality having ‘knock-over’ copper wire fasteners, belt fittings being two hooks and two studs, a small section of the Thistle collar missing, two back plate corners with edge knocks, the plate retains approx 65% gilt £500-700
