North Staffordshire Regiment, a fine quality Great War period portrait miniature, 87mm by 112mm, half length portrait of officer in Khaki uniform, with North Staffs cap badge, signed ‘Norman May’, contained in a fitted double fronted case, this with some damage, otherwise good condition £100-150

The portrait miniature is attributed to Captain Reginald Tavenor Johnson, who was educated at Rugby and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was reported missing presumed killed after the attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt on 13 October 1915, when out of 200 men in his company only five returned. His name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. Captain Johnson’s campaign medals were sold as part of the Hal Giblin Collection at Christies on 10 November 1992, lot 282.
