Great War Memorial Plaque Receipt Confirmation Cards (5), being the cards returned to the plaque factory to acknowledge receipt of the memorial plaque, including two interesting examples, one signed by Rudyard Kipling, and another with the following derogatory comment inscribed upon it ‘the terrible and awful monstrosity has arrived’, good condition and rare survivals (5) £150-200

Rudyard Kipling lost his son, Lieutenant John Kipling, on 27 September 1915, whilst serving with the Irish Guards. He subsequently went on to write the regimental history of the Irish Guards, and his desperate attempts to locate the body of his son have been the subject of numerous articles.
